Daily Musings 83 “thinkers & writers”

On this 22nd last day of 2020 I have to give thanks to the specific thinkers and writers of the great books I “read” this year. They were my therapy and c/o the TPL (Toronto Public Library) it was free. They gave me clarity when I had none. They reminded me of the ‘stuff’ I already knew but had either forgotten or been silenced amongst the nonsense that is our world. They opened me up and blew my mind, heart and soul “page by page”, over and over again.

And with that, heartfelt gratitude, respect and admiration go to:

  • Oyinkan Brathwaite for My Sister the Serial Killer
  • Micheal A.Singer for The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself
  • Audre Lorde for Sister Outsider: Essays and Speeches
  • Bell Hooks for Feminism is for Everybody:Passionate Politics
  • Toni Morrison for Beloved
  • Michelle Alexander for The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the age of Colorblindness
  • Brittany Cooper for Eloquent Rage: A Black Feminist Discovers Her Superpower
  • James Baldwin for The Fire Next Time
  • Yaa Gyasi for Homegoing
  • Paolo Freire for Pedagogy of the Oppressed
  • Robin DiAngelo for White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism
  • Layla F.Saad for Me and White Supremacy: Combat Racism, Change the World and Become a Good Ancestor
  • Zalika Reid-Benta for Frying Plaintain
  • Miki Kendall for Notes From the Women a Movement Forgot

While I’m not yet done reading The Souls of Black Folk by W.E.B. Dubois and Writing Down the Bones: Freeing the Writer Within by Natalie Goldberg, I’m sure they’ll be added to my 2020 list of thinkers and writers that I’m grateful for.

How about you? Read any great books this year?
