When schools locked down last March, almost my entire class disappeared. I was still ‘teaching’ remotely, but only to about three of my students. The others seemed to have vanished. I’m still mourning this loss.
Now, exactly three weeks into the new school year and I’m preparing for a socially-distanced class party to celebrate our time together. As of next week I will no longer be their teacher. 26 more students have left our physical building to join virtual school. Three more teachers have been deployed to virtual school and their classes have been collapsed. Mine was one of them. Again, I mourn.
