Daily Musings 77 “gramps”

On this 28th last day of 2020 I give thanks for my gramps on the day of his birth. I haven’t seen him in almost a year; he’s in a long-term care home and Covid-19 has gotten in the way of visits.

My gramps is full of stories of a life lived fully and purposefully and he used to share these stories willingly and enthusiastically. Stories from his childhood in Jamaica, of his many business ventures and trades, starting up the first Credit Union in Toronto for the Jamaican community and seeing the Rock of Gibraltar as he journeyed by ship from Jamaica to England in the 1940’s, to name a few.

I’m thankful for his drive, his work ethic, the love he has for his people (family, friends, JAMAICANS 🇯🇲 😅) and deep sense of collective responsibility. I’ve never really thought of myself as having very much in common with my gramps, but writing this is making me realize we are indeed quite similar and for that I’m grateful.
