Double The Love For Ready, Set, Mango!

It’s been a little over one year, since I had my third (book) baby and I can’t believe I still haven’t shared the origin story of how my publishing journey began—but it’ll have to wait for another post.

Right now, I’m still processing a really special moment. My debut picture book, Ready, Set, Mango! illustrated by Raz Latif and published by OwlKids Books, has been receiving a lot of love, and I’m so grateful to share that it’s been selected as a 2026 Kids’ Favorite AND Librarian Favorite by the Children’s Book Council.

“Each year, hundreds of newly published children’s books are read, shared, and rated by thousands of children, teachers, and librarians across the United States before the final favorites lists are compiled. These books are publisher‑submitted titles that are distributed to participating schools and libraries so they can be included in the voting process.” (cbcbooks.org)

So, I’m sure you can imagine just how meaningful this recognition is. To have my lil ol’ (ok new) debut picture book be chosen not only by the children it was written for, but by the people responsible for putting books into their hands, is so incredibly joyful and special. I’m incredibly grateful.

In the story two competitive cousins are in for a surprise as they fight to find the perfect fruit. On an island vacation with their auntie, cousins Tee and Dee set out to find mangoes to make smoothies. As the best of friends, but also the worst of rivals, the girls see everything as a competition, and they immediately begin to argue about who can find the perfect mango first.

Illustrator Raz Latif’s vibrant illustrations and atmospheric details evoke the sights and sounds of island life. It’s inspired by a childhood memory between my cousin Diana and I, and is a playful take on childhood rivalries as it prizes friendship and laughter above fighting and competing.

If you haven’t already read it, I encourage you to purchase a copy from wherever you like to buy books, or borrow a copy from your local library. I feel confident you’ll get a good laugh. As well, do me a favour and leave a review!

This recognition makes me smile and it’s a pleasant reminder of why I write…to create and share stories where children can see themselves, laugh, and feel connected.

Publishing origin story coming soon!!! Until then, Ready, Set, Mangooooo!

Reflectively yours,
